Marley Spoon, the Berlin-based meal kit company announced its cooperation with Amazon Fresh. Customers can order 8 different Marley Spoon meal kits over Amazon Fresh, each containing a 2-person meal. Amazon customers can order the up until the day of delivery.
With this new option, Marley Spoon gives consumers the option to spontaneously decide to order a meal kit, without a subscription.
Founder and CEO Fabian Siegel: “we want to create a new standard in the meal-kit industry, in which we offer flexible delivery options and a broad choice of recipes. This partnership gives consumers who want to make their daily eating routines easier, either for a single evening or more evenings in a week."
The decision to offer meal kits without subscription, could be very beneficial for the company as consumers indicated that the burden of a subscription is often a reason not to purchase meal kits. Together with the same-day delivery option offered through Amazon Fresh, it could give them a competitive advantage towards their biggest rival HelloFresh.
For Amazon it is a good addition to their current Fresh product offer, giving them the option to experiment offering fresh food meal kits, using an already proven concept.
Ordering and delivery
The meal kits can soon be ordered in Berlin, Potsdam, Hamburg and Munich. A 2-hour slot can be chosen for the moment of delivery, same day delivery orders need to be made before 12 pm. For Amazon Fresh it mean ‘enabling customers to combine the delivery of their meal kits with the delivery of their groceries’.
Eight different recipes will be available for six weeks, after which they will be replaced by eight new ones. The first set of recipes, include Marley Spoon’s all-time favourites like steak with fries , chicken korma curry with chickpeas and potatoes or red beet risotto with goat cheese and rucola.
German Amazon Prime members will first need to subscribe to Amazon Fresh option (9,99 euros per month) before they can start ordering anything at Amazon Fresh, including the Marley Spoon meal kits.
