For this report we studied the meal kit market in the Netherlands, one of the most mature markets for meal kits. We focus on the consumer side: how do consumers experience and value meal kits? In this report we use the outcomes of multiple studies, among which an elaborate consumer valuation study performed by Veylinx among 1,084 Dutch consumers, studying consumer preferences for meal kits, among which: HelloFresh, Marley Spoon, Mathijsmaaltijdbox, Allerhandebox (operated by retailer Albert Heijn) and de Krat.   

The market situation in the Netherlands serves as a case study for the report. Learnings however can be applied to the world wide meal kit industry, answering questions like: 

  • What are best practices within the meal kit industry?
  • How to determine optimal pricing for meal kits?
  • What are chances for potential new entrants?
